Back to basics: when care becomes a ritual again
In a world saturated with standardized and industrial products, recognizing a quality soap is almost an art. For those with sensitive skin or who are mindful of the quality of the products they use, soap is no longer just a hygiene product: it becomes a ritual of self-care, a moment of reconnection with nature and the right touch.
Inherited from Mediterranean traditions, authentic soap tells a story of noble ingredients, slowness, and respect for the body. However, it's essential to distinguish genuine craftsmanship from industrial soap, which is often visually appealing but lacking in substance.
The key ingredient: extra virgin olive oil
An exceptional soap always begins with its raw material. The best soaps are made from premium extra virgin olive oil, recognized since antiquity for its health benefits and protective properties for the skin.
Rich in antioxidant polyphenols, olive oil nourishes the skin, supports natural hydration, and respects the hydrolipidic film. A natural, melting soap leaves skin supple and comfortable, without tightness.
Handmade or industrial soap: a fundamental difference
Industrial soap is often formulated with harsh cleansing agents, artificial fragrances, and accelerated processes. In contrast, quality soap is simple, easy to understand, and kind to both skin and the environment.
How can you tell the difference between a quality soap and a more aggressive soap?
The difference between two soaps is rarely visible to the naked eye. It becomes apparent mainly upon contact with water and on the skin , in the minutes following use.
A high-quality soap , rich in extra virgin olive oil , slowly saponified and respectful of the skin's hydrolipidic film, has a slightly melting texture upon contact with water. This sensation is not a defect: it is the sign of a living formula, not artificially hardened, which cleanses without stripping.
After use, the skin remains supple, comfortable , and without tightness. The soap does not "hydrate" in the strict sense, but it helps to preserve the skin's natural moisture by respecting its protective barrier.
Conversely, a more industrial or lower-quality soap is often very hard, very dry, and gives a misleading impression of longevity. Its lather is abundant but harsh, and the skin can quickly feel tight, dry, or even crack , especially in sensitive areas. This sensation is generally linked to a formula that is too alkaline, low in beneficial oils, and sometimes lacking in its natural glycerin.
The skin, however, never lies.
A soap that leaves a feeling of repeated discomfort is not a demanding soap: it is a soap that cleans at the expense of the skin's balance .
In Mediterranean traditions , soap is first and foremost a humble, daily ritual. It must cleanse without ever being harsh , accompany the natural movement, and leave the skin intact—ready to face the day, naturally.
Time, an indispensable ally: drying in 40 days
A quality soap is cold-processed and then left to cure for approximately 40 days. This extended curing time allows the soap to stabilize, resulting in optimal softness and greater longevity.
The power of plants: exceptional herbs and plants
For our Casa Montero y Bianchi soaps, we have chosen to incorporate herbs and plants from the El Raposo mineral-medicinal spring, renowned for its soothing properties. The fragrance remains subtle, botanical, and true to nature.
Texture, scent, feel: the telltale signs
A quality soap offers a fine lather, a melting texture, a natural fragrance and leaves the skin moisturized after rinsing.
